1995 H.H. Fentress Memorial Award

2010 Internship Award

 

Awarded annually by the Scripps Howard Foundation to the Outstanding Reporting or Feature Writing Internship on a TDNA member newspaper during the summer program. Any intern from a four-year college or university is eligible. An intern may win the first place award only once.

 

How to make nominations:

 

1.             Nominations restricted to student from reporting/feature writing internships at TDNA member newspapers during the summer of 2010 who are from a four-year college or university. An intern may win the first place award only once.

 

1.             Nominations may be made only by the editor or publisher under whom the intern serves. Nominations should include a letter, written by the person authorized to make nominations, stating why the intern should be considered for the award.

 

3.             Supporting information or material such as tear sheets of stories produced by the nominee may be included with the nomination. This material may be presented in any manner the newspaper may choose. Judging will be based on the merit of the intern, not on the attractiveness of the presentation. The letter of nomination and the supporting material cannot be returned.

 

3.             Accompanying the letter of nomination must be a written statement from the nominee expressing in his/her own words  1) the experience of being an intern, 2) the benefits and value of the program and 3)its importance to the intern in furthering education and choosing a career.

 

The winner will receive a $750 award from the Scripps Howard Foundation, along with a commemorative plaque.  One runner up will be awarded $250, and plaque

 

Deadline for submissions is September 30, 2010.  Nominations may be forwarded to the TDNA office after June 15.
